Giorgio Baldi / Santa Monica, CA

Beef Carpaccio in Truffle Cream Sauce

63 year old Tuscan owner Giorgio Baldi opened this small trattoria in 1990 about a block off the PCH in the Santa Monica Canyon area, after 20 years the family still is cooking its homemade pastas, risottos, soups, desserts. To start there are two things you must order here. Beef Carpaccio with White Truffle Cream Sauce. This stuff was cut so thin you could almost read thru it and some of the best I have ever had, melts in your mouth. I could have eaten the entire plate, very addictive. Second round for the table we ordered the 4 raviolis available that night. I thought I had hit the mother of all raviolis in Florence, Italy at a small Osteria but I was wrong. This ravioli BEST EVER, I swear on a stack on bibles, this stuff melted right on the tongue. It is very pricy but worth its weight in gold. The Stuffed Sweet Corn is the food dreams are made of (at least mine). I am a pasta freak so did the Pappardelle, and was not disappointed. Tiramisu (made in-house) is killer but was so blown away by the appetizers I almost re-ordered the Ravioli for dessert. Over 300 wines on the menu, small cozy tables, I don’t believe there is anything you can go wrong with on the menu but beware, very pricy.
