Ruth’s Chris / Baton Rouge, LA
Try to stay away from chain restaurants but this has to be said. When Ms. Ruth sold the steak house to an equity firm in 1999 it seemed to lose some of its luster. I have been to many of the locations and they are very good but none of them ever stood up to the Baton Rouge location which happens to be the first one I ever stepped foot in and the first franchise Ruth Fertel allowed out of the original New Orleans location in 1976. A big reason why this one is still so good is, it is still independently owned and not subject to corporate menu approval. After taking a good friend to celebrate a birthday, I had forgotten how good this place is. Same great decor and a filet that I swear you could cut with a spoon, absolutely perfect. Can’t go wrong with a 1800 degree seared filet, served on a 500 degree plate and friends for dinner. This location is a good one. Closed Sunday.
